Study abroad is a dream for many people, including me 20 years ago. The path I take when it is through academics. That is, I became a lecturer at a college with the hope to enhance the probability of obtaining scholarships from various sources.
Typically, a lecturer is more priority to obtain a scholarship to study in S-2 and especially S-3. Parties who offer scholarships are the government, Indonesian or foreign. Most who get these scholarships is a lecturer, PTN or private universities, public servants in government departments, and members of NGOs.
Eight years ago I again obtained a scholarship to study in the levels of S-3. This time from the Australian Development Scholarship (ADS). This is a scholarship from the Australian Government and no ties at all. The recipient is obliged only to come out of Australia for two years after graduating before being allowed to the application as a permanent resident (PR) in Australia.
