schedule 300x300 Ten Steps to Planning Your Class Schedule1. Gather information. Review the catalog and schedule of classes. Gather planning and registration forms as well as placement test scores.

2. Meet with your advisor. Talk with your advisor about how to register and which courses to take.

3. Consider your needs and preferences. Would you prefer early or late classes? Be honest about your study skills and how they affect the number and kind of classes you take. Think about the time you need for work, commuting, or extracurricular activities.

4. Balance your courses. Think about the kind of homework the courses require (reading, writing, problem-solving, or projects), your study strengths and weaknesses, and the difficulty of each course.

5. Schedule required courses first. Begin with the required courses that have the fewest sections or meet only one term per year. Do all you can to get into them. Schedule all other classes and activities around them. Next, schedule required courses that have many sections.

6. Schedule non-required courses. List these courses in order of preference. Go down the list until you find one that fits with your required courses and your preferred schedule.

7. Prepare required information. Complete the information you need to register: course names and numbers, section numbers, and other related information.

8. Be on time. Your planning is wasted if you do not register on time. If you stay ahead of schedule, you will get more classes you want and have time to solve problems that develop.

9. Have a back-up plan. Be ready with your next move if a required course or a section is closed.Do not be shy about asking your advisor or others for help if you have trouble getting it.

10.Make a final schedule. Once you have registered, create a final schedule that also includes your study time, work, meals, rest, and activities.Make extra copies for yourself.
